WebProNews reports that more retailers are starting to use Bing now. Even though Google and Yahoo are still way ahead of Microsoft's new search engine, Bing has made significant advances.

Basically, Bing has attracted 74% more volume this holiday season that the previous version (Microsoft Live) did last holiday season.

Nonetheless, I think we should take this with a grain of salt. There are many reasons why Bing could be doing better this year. For instance:

• The economic downturn of 2008 most likely depressed Microsoft Live's numbers.
• Microsoft invested heavily in Bing's marketing campaign, giving it a very high profile.
• Since it's the holiday season, a lot of retailers are probably willing to give Bing a shot and see what happens.

Whatever the reasons for Bing's increased popularity this year, I think it bears recognizing that Google is not the only game in town.

It is the best game in town so far, so let's not get carried away.

But maybe this proves it's time to start figuring out how to improve our webpages for Bing as well.

Wordpress Wins CMS of the Year Award

Wordpress, the magnificent open source blogging platform, was awarded Overall Best Open Source CMS Award in the 2009 Open Source CMS Awards.

I use Wordpress for many of my blogs, and it really is a fantastic platform. Not just because it's so easy to use (it really is) but also because of the infinite number of ways you can design your blog.

Wordpress can also be used as a static site (so long as you attach a blog to it in some way). And of course, it can also be used as a CMS to organize and manage your website's files, folders, pictures, and anything else.

Oh yeah! Did I mention it's free?

Google's Changing Things Up Again!

Google has announced that they're releasing their search engine's update, codenamed: Caffeine. For months, it was just a tool to play around with in Google's sandbox.

Now Caffeine is going live. Google won't say how this update will change things, but I'm sure some things will remain the same.

• Content rules
• Write and create content for humans, not California-based search engine companies
• Keep writing good content
